Fahrenheit 451 Is A Timeless Novel That Shows The Overtaking

Fahrenheit 451 is a timeless novel that shows the overtaking of technology and manipulation of censorship. In America, technology has severely affected the way free speech is used and/or viewed. We are given the right to free speech to an extent. We are given free speech while the government has the power of censorship making our words selective and politically correct. This causes outbursts of anger by the public. My purpose is to explain that this novel is important because, the oppression of freedom within the dystopian world of the novel is, in some ways, apparent in the real world. The feelings felt by Guy Montag in Fahrenheit 451 are similar to feelings felt by everyday Americans whose words are repressed by the government, but when†¦show more content†¦Ray Bradbury was not an unknown or unawarded author. He was very deserving of all of the praise and awards given to him. â€Å"Mr. Bradbury s life work has proclaimed the incalculable value of reading; the perils of ce nsorship; and the vital importance of building a better, more beautiful future for ourselves and our children through self-knowledge, education, and creative, life-affirming attentiveness and risk-taking,† (â€Å"Ray†). There are several themes that show throughout this novel. Technology, ignorance, violence, privilege, but mainly censorship and conformity come to mind. All through Fahrenheit 451, there is an underlying message that portrays conformity. The characters within the novel fall victim to political correctness. Someone’s opinion might not be politically correct but he or she must still have the right to believe in it without the danger of being persecuted if said opinion is found â€Å"offensive† to someone else (Zimmerman and Loraine p. 195). They do not want to cause problems or disagreements because they are too afraid of catastrophes, thus, leading the world into a robotic-like dystopian society of silenced victims. ‘Now let s take up the minorities in our civilization, shall we?
